Antioch Baptist Church of Deanwood
Young At Heart Ministry

Contact Person:  Patricia Casey

The Young-at-Heart Ministry (formerly Senior Citizens Outreach Ministry) was established in the 1980s. Activities for senior members at Antioch were coordinated through this Ministry, including hosting activities with neighborhood churches.

On August 22, 1996, a meeting was called to present ideas for energizing the program and offer activities that would be of interest to Antioch’s seniors. It was also suggested that the name be changed to reflect the personality of the group. On October 1, 1996, the Senior Citizens Outreach Ministry met and elected officers and changed the name to the Young-at-Heart Ministry.

The purpose of the Young-at-Heart Ministry is to foster the participation of senior members of the Antioch Baptist Church and vicinity in activities that will promote Christian discipleship and engage in social activities that are of interest to seniors.

The goal of the Young-at-Heart Ministry is to meet the needs of seniors by obtaining and disseminating information about community resources that are available to them through the Office on Aging, Baptist Senior Adult Ministries of the Washington D.C. vicinity, and other community-based facilities. This Ministry strives to promote wholesome recreational activities that will be of interest to seniors.

The Young-at-Heart Ministry has the following elected offices: President, Vice President, Secretary, Assistant Secretary, Treasurer, and Chaplain.

The Young-at-Heart Ministry meets weekly on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. for exercise, crafts, games, light lunch, socializing, and “inspirational talks”.

Members of this Ministry must be 55 years of age or older.
